Dream Champions League Final Preview

Manchester United will tonight try to become the first back to back winners of the Champions league when they face Barcelona tonight in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.

This is the match most people would have wanted to see as it will pit the English champions against the Spanish Champions. The two best leagues against each other in club footballs biggest game. Although some would have wanted a rematch of the United - Chelsea match from last season, but here at Lovell Soccer this is the match we have been looking forward to.

They are both famous clubs with Barcelona winning there respective domestic league 18 times and Manchester United winning theirs 17. The match throws former Barca legend Pep Guardiola a relative rookie as a manager against arguebly the greatest Manager of them all Sir Alex Ferguson.

In addition to this, the most anticipated match up is between the two best footballers in the world, Lionel Messi of Argentina and Barcelona up against Christano Ronaldo of Portugal and Manchester United. Both are playing near the peak of their powers at the moment and the result of tonights game could well swing on which player stands up tonight and prove their superiority.

Here at Lovell Soccer we think the game will hinge on Key battles below;

Andres Iniesta Vs Michael Carrick

This match up in the centre of Midfield will be crucial aspect of the game. Iniesta is more of creator and scorer of goals from the middle than Carrick (who wears Puma King XL football boots) who works hard defensively and rarely loses possession of ball. Iniesta (who wears Nike total 90 Laer 2 football boots) put Barcalona through to the final with his stunning late goal in the Semi final against Chelsea. Carrick will be looking forward to this game after establishing himself as a key part of United midfield and looking to impress England boss Fabio Capello after recently being called back to the national squad.

Lionel Messi Vs Patrice Evra

Messi was somewhat subdued in the semi-final, but class is permanent and Lionel Messi (who wears Adidas F50 Football boots) remains Barcelona’s potential match-winner, his ability to turn a game in a split second with a moment of brilliance meaning that he must be closely monitored throughout. That job falls to Patrice Evra, who can also frustrate at times but on his day looks like one of the best full-backs in Europe. He did a sound job containing the prodigious flair of Theo Walcott in the semi-finals and will be hoping to put in a similar shift at the Stadio Olimpico. Evra, the France international (who wears Nike total 90 Laser 2 Football boots), also boasts speed attacking which could be a threat tonight for United.

Gerald Pique Vs Christano Ronaldo

The tall figure of Gerard Pique has become increasingly important in an often vulnerable Barcelona defence this season, and the youngster will be desperate to impress in Rome with a solid performance against his former colleagues. But Pique (who wears Nike Air Legend 2 Football boots) could hardly face a tougher test than Cristiano Ronaldo, the world player of the year who inspired United’s European glory last season. Blessed with a box of tricks like no other, the Portuguese is frequently the man for the big occasion and must be stopped if the Catalan club are to have any chance of emerging triumphant on the night. Ronaldo (Who wears Nike Mercurial Vapor 5 football boots) will fancy showing how good he is tonight on the biggest stage. Barcalona also need to keep an eye out for his thunderus free kicks.
