Lovell Soccer Win Interline 7’s Tournament

With all the eyes last weekend on the Premiership to see Michael Owen score his first goal in a Manchester United shirt or seeing how the £230 Million spent by Mark Hughes at Manchester City would do in there first home game at Eastlands this season against would be whipping boys Wolves, The Lovell Soccer staff were up bright and breazy on Sunday Morning to play in the Annual Interline 7 a side Soccer Summer Tournement.

With a squad consisting of 3 Rugby Players , 1 Cricketer,2 Non Players, 1 Division 5 player (Who this season is getting Splinters!),1 Outfield player in Goal and Me a 35 year old who never had a prime in playing years.

Lovell Soccer Team

Sean Rooney, Ross Collins, Simon Collings, Ben Lovell, Joe Lovell,Jamie Henderson, Mark Orchard, Chris Harper & Lee Dorsett (Player/Manager)

This all mounted up to one thing, an early exit from the group stages and home in time for the Chelsea v Fulham Match.

Our first game was against a very useful B&H Electricals and after an early shock lead and later conceding a free kick, we had a very upbeat team as this was like a win to us and it didn’t matter anyway as we were going to get trouced anyway by last seasons finalist.

Well against it all we won 2-0 with goals from Mark Orchard & Ben Lovell and a clean sheet as well !

Next up was Stodgy Rovers who had won there first 2 games and only needed a draw to go through and knock us out on the way.

With Stodgy 2-0 up and only 10 Minuites to go Lovells looking like gettting home for the match, with a bit of fortune and dodgey defending the game was tied at 2-2 within 3 mins with goals from Simon Collings and Lee Dorsett.

Still not good enough to go through but with a David Beckham v Greece moment needed, with 30 seconds on the clock and a pinball ball moment in the box with Mark Orchard having 3 blocked shots at the keeper, the ball popped out to Player / Manager Lee Dorsett to Volley the ball home to take the match and also to take Lovell Soccer into the Semi Final against Pingu Pirates.

The Semi Final was all about the defence, With us keeping a clean sheet and defender Chris Harper scoring a hat trick ! after Ross Collins had given us an early lead.

THE FINAL

To be very honest there was not a single person in the Lovell Soccer team that thought they would have got this far as last year we didn’t win a game and only scored 1 goal !.

Screaming Abdabs V Lovell Soccer

The game was a very tight game with Abdabs applying all the pressure and with save after save from Sean Rooney it looked like a matter of time before the floodgates opened, They didn’t with a long ball from Joe Lovell and a rasping shot from Jamie Henderson, the impossiable thought of winning the Cup was on.

With 2 minuites on the clock and having taken a battering defender Chris Harper broke clear again and slotted home number 2, Whistle blew Lovell Soccer were Champions.

let me put this into pospective, we had as much chance of winning this as Torquay United do of winning the FA Cup.

Well Done lads.
