Since the unveiling of the Mercurial Dream Speed series with their 001 boot in September 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo‘s collaboration with Nike has done more than just introduce a new silo to the market…
The Forward’s partnership has revolutionized the boot game itself- to restore the branding of the Nike Mercurial as a boot reserved for the pros.
Reinventing what it means to situate ‘speed’ at the heart of the speed boot silo, Nike in recent years have begun to take the exclusivity of the boot away from just Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, the sports-giant seeks to enact a departure from his signature CR7 line to allow for a wide group of speed players to step into the iconic cleats.
Now embarking on their sixth edition, Nike is back with the latest Dream Speed 6 silo, designed by the very man himself, to pay respects to the goal-scoring sensation’s career with a highly compelling Cobalt Bliss/Fuchsia Dream colourway – A sentiment to “tell important moments of the Portuguese star’s life in their decoration”.
Taking inspiration from nature, the Dream Speed 006 combines subtle hues of light blue with varying shades of pink and red to form what Nike have labelled as ‘layered digital tones‘.
A clean wraparound look we can’t get enough of!
Combined with the welcome return of the signature Mercurial stamp to the back of the heel, we see Nike reinstate the Mercurial as an elite boot in its own class.
While the stamped CR7 insole paints an obvious impression as to who will be putting the latest Dream Speed to the test, Kylian Mbappe and Sam Kerr will also be joining Ronaldo as they tear up the pitch in the coming weeks.
We can’t wait to see the world’s most prolific players put the speed boot through its paces.
Sporting an all-new 3/4 Zoom Air Unit on the soleplate, the MDS 006 boasts a considerable improvement in comfort over last year’s 005, but without compromise…
Having recently situated the Zoom Air boot technology predominantly within the heel, the Dream Speed 6 sees a revamped positioning with a three-quarter length Zoom air pocket to the mid and forefoot to promote efficient energy return, while enabling players to propel forward with ease.
Thanks to subtly placed flex grooves, the Dream Speed silo promotes exceptional flexibility, while delivering a more natural sense of movement that sits in line with the dynamic motion of the ball.
In transitioning to the upper, the Dream Speed 6 again takes to new heights with the latest addition of Nike’s Vaporposite + technology to fuse a grippy chevron mesh with a more refined Flyknit lining designed to keep control of the ball at high speeds.
But that’s not all Nike have kept up their sleeve with the design of their Dream Speed silo…
A speed cage also takes precedence in the design of the boot, enhanced by a data-driven design utilized to enable optimal support in the mid and forefoot, while keeping the player’s feet locked down.
An innovative stud configuration and a design that echoes the sentiment of the Nike Mercurial Superfly Elite DF released previously this month – the Tri-Stud configuration features for the first time on the Dream Speed.
Designed to enhance player performance on the pitch, the Tri-Studs enable players to move laterally, making any last-second change in direction an effortless task for the wearer.
Locking and detaching from Firm-Ground grass has never felt so seamless!
